  i know a lady who says she feels demeaned if a man walks on the outside or opens a door for her or stands aside to let her pass.

  i just think it's good manners.

  being a gentleman has nothing to do with equality in my opinion..

  I like it when others think about me and hold a door open or help if things are going south.

  I do the same for others.

  If a man wants to be a gentleman that's fine with me.

  Why discourage their old fashioned charm?

  It makes their day and it doesn't cost you anything.

  i am not a jehovahs witness, but i have family members who are.

  and one of them is my cousin.

  we talk now and again, and i love him very much, both him and his wife, and also my aunt and uncle, his parents.

  Yes they praised witnesses who had sold their businesses, houses etc. in order to preach more. When 1975 came and went with out Armageddon coming, for a few more years they still had a lingering hope. But the reality kicked in when the money they had gotten from those sales ran out.

  There must have been many that wrote to the society about this. The society countered by mocking those who had followed their encouragement. I remember an assembly talk where the society said "there were those that in thinking that Armageddon was soon to come, ran up their credit cards thinking they would not have to pay it back. Hahaha." Then they chided the ones that had sold their houses etc. by saying "we aren't serving God for a date are we?"

  Lately, they had a video that called the sincere followers in 1970's "spiritually weak" because they looked forward to a date. Yet it was the WT that published dates.

  I was there in 1974 at a convention and remember the talk given on Sunday's keynote address.

  "It has been 6,000 years since Adam was created. How much longer after that did Adam finish naming the animals? Not long (because supposedly there weren't as many animal "types" to name) How long after that was Eve created? We don't know, but certainly it wouldn't be long after Adam noticed that the animals had their mate, that he would feel lonely. How long after Eve was created, did they sin? Not long (because otherwise Eve would have gotten pregnant) So Brothers and Sisters, whether it is days, or months these things occurred, we know it won't be long for God to act and bring an end to this old world."

  Of course, this isn't word for word, but it is how I remember it. The whole stadium was silent at the end of this talk.

  The last push the society did like 8 years ago about the world being so close to the end, the owner of the sign shop I worked in, sold the business so she could pioneer. So they are very persuasive in getting people to follow their directions.

  I was going to watch it but, as soon as the voices start up, it just gives me the creeps.

  The two boys playing "kings". The boy picks David. Yes his role model is David. He wants to be the fornicating and murdering king.

  The adult actors are just creepy as well as the video. Just goes to show you the mind of the directors and producers and their intent.

  What ever happened to -

  Don't take your brother to court? Shouldn't they allow themselves to be wronged instead of going in the public court? Isn't it "all together a defeat?"

  Therefore indeed it is already altogether a defeat for you that you have lawsuits among one another. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 1 cor 6:7

  Oh that's right, that's only for the lowly Jw's. My brother in law was cheated out of thousands because of that scripture.

  Looks like they have aged the kids up a little.

  Where's Mom and Dad's affirmation of a donation?

  Why didn't Dad, like a normal parent, offer Caleb some work to do for cash?

  Look at all the JW broadcasting stuff on their TV....

  Here we see that Sophia, represents the girls who work or save up for things while Caleb is the boy who has toys and doesn't save. Using Sophia in this way shows that the WT is making sure that the girls are made to feel responsible for the welfare of others ahead of themselves, while giving the "prayer pass" for the boys. Haha the Hail Mary pass.

  It used to be just around the corner - now it's just minutes away. But when these JW's go home, and they talk about it for a day - it will be forgotten. It's like a short term memory loss. Next time they hear it, it will be "new" again.

  My mother became a witness when I was five and I believed that every witness followed what was said at the meetings and the instructions given. My naive belief carried on until maybe I was 10? or so.

  At the old conventions, volunteers would come early and pack fruit into net bags so that it could be sold at lunch. My mother volunteered us to do it. (don't ask me how she got us there that early) So we put grapes, nectarines, apples and bananas in the bag for maybe an hour and then came time for the doors to open at the venue for seating. I was so excited for this because I had always seen the seats with the extra 3' foot space that ringed the facility but had never been early enough to be able to sit in them. So we stood in a crowd in front of the doors. A brother with a serious face, gave a speech about how we should not run, save seats for others etc. because we would want to be christ like and think of others.

  Doors open. Young brothers ran like crazy towards those seats and threw blankets everywhere. I was shocked.

  Afterwards, I looked at the "brothers and sisters" who sat in them, piously reading the bible and taking notes. I never looked at those setting in the seats as anything other than hypocrites after that.

  The other thing was just maybe 10 years ago when I still attended conventions. We were assigned to clean some interior offices in the venue. In my mind, as JW's you trusted people. (yes naive again) So it was rather shocking to see this rather menacing "brother" standing in the middle of the room with his hands clasped in front of him, staring at us like we were going to rob the bank. Maybe he was a cop for hire I don't know but it added an element that seemed foreign. It was just unsettling to me because it was implying that I was untrustworthy.

  What did you run into that revealed all wasn't as it should be? I would imagine a person converted later in life wouldn't see the same things to the degree a born in would, but it would be interesting to hear about it.

  can parents really teach kids from this book, things like this , worded in such a way?.

  i must admit that i never read this book when it was released coz being single n who wants to read a book for kids.

  so never noticed this .
